TEN-MINUTE MUSICALS

Between 2010 and 2014, Nick composed four 10-minute musicals for Malaysia’s Short+Sweet Musical festival, winning numerous prizes over the years. Three of these shows have been re-performed repeatedly since, including most recently as Four in Fifty: A Mini Musical Marathon (alongside a brand-new short piece written exclusively for that event). Here are details on the musicals that Nick wrote for Short+Sweet Musical Malaysia.

CARTOGRAPHY OF A RELATIONSHIP

Book, music & lyrics by Nick Choo

The relationship between a young man and woman is conveyed from a very unique point of view – a GPS device. Told almost entirely through song by Carter, the singing digital navigator, this is a tour-de-force piece for a solo female performer that also includes two non-singing supporting roles.

DREAMING OUTSIDE THE BOX

Book, music & lyrics by Nick Choo

A multiple award-winner, Dreaming tells of the plight of two toys from days past. Jack and Jackie are jack-in-the-boxes who have journeyed together from their maker’s workshop to their owner’s toy room. Sadly, they have been forgotten in this day and age of digital overconsumption. Today, the two soul mates wait day in and day out for children to play with them – if only so they can be freed from their wooden prisons and see each other once again.
