Book & Lyrics by Sarah Courtis • Music by Nick Choo
It’s the year 2084 and the One World Corporation governs everything. Roberta, charged with organising the annual Memory Day Celebrations, is supported by Ian and Will, the heads of Propaganda and Security. Together they maintain the peace in a fragile new world. Everything runs smoothly until Roberta makes contact with someone from her past and the illusory world created by the Corporation starts to unravel.
2084 is an original work inspired by the classic novel 1984 and tells a dark and dystopian tale of a future as predicted by Orwell.
Western Australian World Premiere performances 18-20 Aug 2016 • Nexus Theatre, Murdoch • Choreography by Ellin Sears • Musical arrangement & direction by Nick Choo • Produced by Sarah Courtis & Ellin Sears
“Nick Choo conducted his musicians through his clever compositions, with carefully selected instruments to match the mood. One scene had staccato strings; next there was the pounding, full power of the band that almost achieved orchestral richness with the limited instruments. Clever arrangement.” Read the rest of the review here!
